Before the COVID-19 pandemic “grounded” most of us in March 2019, I was engaged to appraise this 1964 Ford Custom 500 two-door sedan as part of an estate. With only 17,000 miles on the odometer and one repaint, this super clean car was originally equipped with a six cylinder engine and a three-speed manual transmission. However, a previous owner “recreated” the car as a drag strip hero by installing a period-correct 427 V8, a close four-speed manual transmission, and a nine-inch rear with a Detroit Locker differential. The Thunderbird 427 badges on the lower front fenders and the “Tasca Ford” dealer script at the rear complete the “sleeper” vibe. Cool!
