Recently, I appraised his 1967 Shelby GT500 two-door convertible, which was custom-built under license to Shelby American, Inc. as a “continuation” car and featured a certificate of authenticity signed by Carroll Shelby himself. Starting with a stock 1967 Ford Mustang convertible, the authorized builder completed a comprehensive, ground-up rotisserie restoration to “create” this vehicle as a `67 Shelby GT500 convertible, which was never offered by Shelby during that model year. The vehicle, which was ordered and specifically built for my client, featured a 428 cubic inch V8 engine, a four-speed manual transmission, a nine-inch limited slip differential, and four wheel disc brakes.
