This fall, I had the opportunity to appraise this 1972 Chevrolet Camaro RS two-door coupe for my client who had just purchased it from the original owner’s family. With only 16,914 miles on its odometer, and with the exception of a battery and other normal maintenance items, the vehicle was totally original and remarkably well preserved including its paint. Having been ordered from the Ammon R. Smith Chevrolet dealership in York, Pennsylvania, which was famous for sponsoring drag racing legend Dave Strickler, the vehicle was equipped with a 350 cubic inch 165 horsepower V8 engine, a Turbohydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, manual front disc and rear drum brakes, 14×6-inch Rally wheels, bucket seats and console, and an AM-FM monaural radio. The dealer also installed a non-original targa-style half vinyl roof covering when the vehicle was new. Fortunately, the original owner and his family retained the Monroney window label/sticker, the warranty protection booklet with its Protect-O-Plate charge plate, the dealer sales invoice, and other factory-issued paperwork.
