Recently, I was able to purchase this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray two-door convertible from the second owners who acquired it in 1974 from the first owner. The car went through a major refurbishment that was completed in early 1998 and included but was not limited to a full repaint, installation of reproduction upholstery, door panels, carpeting, and an aftermarket AM-FM radio and cassette player, and replacement of the ball joints, suspension bushings, body mounts, and exhaust system. Unfortunately, the original 327 cubic inch 350 horsepower “L79” V8 engine was removed at some point in the past. So as part of the refurbishment, a GM remanufactured 350 cubic inch “long block” V8 was installed along with the factory-original Winters aluminum intake manifold, tach-drive distributor, and cast iron exhaust manifolds, which were retained. The factory-original Muncie M-21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and Positraction differential with 3.70:1 gears are still in the car. Painted Rally Red with a red vinyl interior, the car also has power steering and an auxiliary removable hardtop. Fortunately, the “Protect-O-Plate” factory warranty charge plate and booklet were saved after all these years, which include the alpha numeric and numeric codes for the VIN, the engine number, the transmission type and build date, the differential number, the paint and interior codes, and the original owner’s name and address. The booklet also includes the selling dealer’s name and address. New radial tires have just been installed (the blue coating on the whitewalls will be washed off as soon as the weather improves) to replace the 28-year-old tires. Future plans include addressing some minor engine run issues, installing a restored original AM-FM radio, getting the bumpers re-chromed, and trying to hunt down the original 327 “L79” engine. Thirty-five years ago, I owned an almost identical red/red `67 Corvette convertible, so it is a real privilege and thrill to become the next “custodian” of this car!
